A few days ago Current TV published this video report about bastard, and the grand opening of the new COMVERT HQ: ONLYWOOD Prima Visione. In the video there are a few images of the party with a some skate footage with our good friend Igor Fardin (white hat) and Daniel Cardone. The video is filmed and edited by Brandon.

Lorenzo Fonda & Sergi Sanchez

In the picture above the artpiece made by Lorenzo Fonda (who’s leaving for Los Angeles where he wants to stay more than usual) and Sergi Sanchez after 12 hours of session alternating painting/skateboarding at the bastard bowl.

My take: if you smell something rotten do something… or pay the consequences after sometime.

by jep November 18 2008

On archinfo.it is published an article with the details of the bastard bowl construction, illustrations and a general view of the COMVERT Headquarter project.

On domus web there is an article with the main project and a few pics.

They used a shot of Daniel Cardone frontside flippin over the extension of the bowl, taken by Giuliano Berarducci the day after the Grand Opening (ONLYWOOD), I put here the original pic at a better resolution.

Saturday afternoon session at the bastard bowl - Photo: Nils Sveje

On saturday afternoon long time skate friends from Ravenna paid a visit to us and tested the bastard bowl. They put the session on fire (forgetaboutit)… it was a pleasure!

We hope they come back uphere to skate as soon as the winter arrives.

Here Giorgio certifies the extension with a Mc Twist at full speed…alla vecchia maniera.

bastard bowl

In the last three months we haven’t been able to fully committ to building the bowl as, unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), we have been swamped with work in between delivering the bastard winter collection and developing the new line.

Installing the metallic net along the borders wasn’t exactly a piece of cake, having to deal with drilling holes and screwing bolts into metal directly on the spot. To ensure the net to the crossbars we used bolts with selfblocking nutcases.. so we’ll feel safe even when Scott Bourne shows up.

We entirely redesigned the lighting scheme, in order to get rid of poorly lit areas:

We switched the big neons from the sides to the center.
Plus we installed a light ring all around the double ceiling and into the groove that used to host the old cinema screen. Now the lighting’s perfect!

The hips corners were carved out of multilayer wood blocks (larch + fir), leftovers from building the offices… recycling rules!

The first paneling layer was laid down using a custom tool created for the occasion, nicknamed The Longherone (thanks Nils @INODA+SVEJE and Andrea Paulicelli @mamadesignlab !)… and as the mind wanders looking for new lines we get ready for the grand opening night FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24TH

Here are some pics, taken by Giuliano Berarducci, Gros and Jep:

Everybody think about the lines in the meanwhile

View

The structure for the bowl is almost completed without hand cutting any of the planned components… for the rest of us used to build ramps making adjustments with the saw, working at a millimetric level of detail sounds incredible!

The bowl takes shape

view from the platform

This week the work on the bowl site slowed down a bit due to some building components not easy to produce… and the Polish worker (a.k.a. Marcin Solecki) being injured at the Parco Lambro skatepark. Nothing too serious and he’ll be back on board soon. On the other hand Giuliano Berarducci joined us to document the site with pictures beside working on a couple of parallel projects that sound pretty interesting.

Giuliano is the founder of the roman skateshop First Love, creator of the fanzine OrangeValleyEnt and he takes quality skatebording shots since 2001. He is one of the few Italian photographers that sport pictures published on Skateboarder, Thrasher and The Skateboard Mag. When he is not stuck in Milano he works for Affiliate in Chicago.
