Made in Italy is often used as a synonym for quality… but can quality be locked up by countries and borders? So what does Proudly Made by Those Lazy Italians mean?

Quality (ethics, culture, aesthetics, practice), this word emptied of every sincere semantic value in the era of scientific method, is the subject of this brief tale. The subject is called Bali collection … or rather Bali connection. Two inputs, one sentence/one scenario: “I would never sell anything I wouldn’t wear” / Bali: The most beloved Indonesian island by surfers around the world.

The bond between the Lazy Italians and the small Balinese producers who make the product undermines any relationship of contemporary neocolonial “subjection”. Thedy is a friend, designer and producer who manufactures high quality garments, with his small family business, according to traditional Indonesian techniques (batik for example). What does it mean? It means that when you choose the bastard brand you buy horizontal collaboration between designer and producer, in a tune that blends local Balinese culture with the creative mindset of a team that pushes counterculture since 1994. It means that what you have in your hands is a product developed in a pure collaborative way, a “revolutionary” way of running the global economy: what you have in your hands is complicity between different cultures that speak the same language, is the rendezvous of countless of ideas fused into that forge of culture which is the bastard store… a place crossed by hundreds of creative, practical, technical people, who deposit scraps of culture by simply walking through the office. This culture is captured and synthesized with wisdom by old loose dogs.

What you have in your hands is a fragment of Milanese history at risk of extinction: the concrete story of a middle finger raised against the fashion market. Here “we do not sell ourselves out” and above all “we do not sell you fairy tales”, just reality, just what we are.

We are proud to introduce you to the first ever bastard Bali Collection! Forget about surfing, the wind blowing your hair and the beautiful seaside.

The Balinese people we played with, love to spend time organizing bootleg races with homemade dragsters on the infamous 200 mt. of the dusty roads around Kuta, and they definitely don’t waste their time with basa-basi (a.k.a. introductory talks). They We’re more “straight to the point” type of dudes, and when we hang out at night, we like to dress nicely.

If you ever had the chance of walking around in the island, then you know that in Bali, there are a lot of dogs wandering around, and sometimes they jump out of an alley or a bush… don’t ever look in their eyes! They may be cute and endearing, but if you’re in their territory they’ll read your staring as confrontation, and bite you. Watch out! Most of them have rabies.

<a title="Indra is back on track!
Those who believed Bali was just a surf location have to finally change mind, as two concrete bowls were recently built (a third one is in the make) and there’s also a secret indoor miniramp with pool coping… i’ve found out through rokma who really liked it there, and decided to stay for a while.

<a title="Julien Park (a.k.a. Very well lit, with four hips and different heights it’s definetely a spot not to be missed, and the locals really make you feel home!

The surface is really smooth and properly made as you can read in Bali just got better! by Gregor Rankin. Once you get adjusted to the hardcore curves and the concrete coping you’re not going to leave easily… but then you remember that the fish market is close, along with all the nice little beach restaurant and you kindly say later. This is also a spot you don’t want to miss. Get ready to change your trucks if you like to grind and you go there often, as it’s really tasty!

Basically: it’s surf time when it rains, and skate time when it’s dry.
