Christiania loses court case
by GroS 27 May 2009Yesterday, after 3 years of Court battles, Denmark’s Eastern High Court puts an end to 38 years of disagreement, which started in 1971 when a group of squatters took over an area of military barracks disused and transformed it into an autonomous alternative city inside Copenaghen, called Freetown Christiania. A social experiment from 1973 by a government decision.
The High Court decided that the area belongs to the state and now they will open it to external businesses. It seems that someone is interested in that, which now is very central, and attracts more than one million tourists a year.
