Bri Mendoza Crum, art director of the event, invited me a couple of months ago, and now a Lelel board is on its way to Dallas.

REBORN-LELEThe Art of Skateboarding is an annual event raising money for The Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital in Dallas. We have 200 skateboards that are designed by all different artists: painters, graphic designers, fashion designers, etc…and, they are all auctioned off. 20 of them will be live auction and the rest are silent auction. It will be an evening of cocktails, food, dj, and fun! The Captain and Casey show will be coming out to be our emcee’s for the evening and we are also bringing out the half-pipe for the guys to skate. Our honorary chairs are Al Coker and John Comer. Last year we raised $44,000 and this year our goal is $100,000. Tickets are only $25! Come out and have fun…and support a good cause!

Wild Jonze

by lorebini 8 November 2009

where_the_wild_things_are

It’s simply impossible to keep track of Spike Jonze! Yesterday I was listening to a radio station, RadioPopolare, where they have this nice program named Alaska. I found out that he has eventually finished his new movie – out tomorrow in the U.S. and in few weeks in Italy – called WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE, inspired by a popular children book and very, very promising! In the meantime Jonze has put up a new blog and made a documentary about the author of the book, Maurice Sendak. If you think this is not enough you should know that the MoMA is celebrating the director with an exhibition titled The First 80 Years. You can visit Alaska blog for more information… But how come we have Obama leading the planet instead of Spike Jonze?

Robots & Donuts at bastard store

by Ambra 8 November 2009

Robots-donuts

Hmm… I would describe me as an artist who tries to inject human pathos into robots. Trying to breathe life into robots. That’s what I do. At least I try to. […]”

That’s what Eric Joyner thinks about himself. He is a californian artist, author and main character of “ROBOTS & DONUTS“, the last arrival at bastard’s Bookstore.

All the drawings inside this book portray improbable robotic scenarios: robots shooting laser beams against mega killer donuts, pirate robots, robots fighting on a ring, space candy but also romantic robots in bucolic contexts. An amazing visionary collection of pure surreal Pop Art…

The curious selection of more than 50 titles that you can find at the Bastard’s Bookstore, has nothing to do with  classic fiction, we decided to give room to  photography, design, graphics and illustration, music, street-art and obviously skateboarding.

The itw is in german language but you can see a selection of his works (the one above is for Milano Centrale skateboards)… I can’t understand what is written but I can follow the only link written and I remember Lukas often talks about this: Trailer Park Boys.

Paris Photo 2008

PARIS PHOTO 2008

I just came back from Paris Photo 2008, a must go in the international photography scenario. All the main galleries and agencies worldwide were showing their images at the Carrousell du Louvre de Paris. And many interesting shows all around town, grand openings and whatnot. Guest of Honour was Japan, well portrayed with the work of the legendary Nobuyoshi Araki and many others.

Altough the three days at the Carroussell finished on Sunday November 16th, many exhibitions that were opened up in these days will stay up until January, some even ’til February. So if you happen to be in Paris in the next two months and you’re interested in photography, i suggest to give it a look.

Among the many things, i recommend “Exactitudes”; an interesting project that put a smile on my face. Rotterdam based photographer Arli Versluis and profiler Ellie Uyttenbroek shot in the last 14 years trying to strike the heterogenous “dress codes” of the street. So they bless us with these 112 panels of “urban types”. Below is the panel titled “Skaters”, a little bit of an oldie, but still close to us. Funny watching the skate community “frozen” in 1997, so far away style-wise, but so close in memories. Besides Skaters, Rockers and Hipsters you can check’em all out at exactitudes.com.
