Olimpia Zagnoli Small Talk

by jep 3 December 2010

We love Olimpia Zagnoli‘s work – in the next bastard Artistuff collection out in march 2010 there is an Olimpia’s artwork on t-shirt – but I knew a little about her hystory. I discovered that she went as a child to the famous Reggio Emilia’s kindergartens, which I met some time ago.

In this video that resumes her recent lecture at AIGA/NY she talks about herself, her inspiration sources and her work in New York.

Rock Candy & Curiosities

by Ambra 3 December 2010

The bookshop of the bastard store is getting bigger. Among the new arrivals it’s worth recommending two titles.

Rock Candy is a collection of illustrations from one of the most interesting Pop Surrealism interpreters we have in Europe.

The superblonde Femke Hiemstra is indeed from Amsterdam, where she still lives and works. Her visionary works (twisted and a bit esoteric) picture surreal settings, mainly with animals, fruit, objects, flowers and antropomorphic distorted bugs handling opium pipes, kitchenware and other oddities.

The black and white collection of characters in Travis Louies‘s Curiosities is grotesque, fascinating and slightly surreal.

These works look like old pictures stolen from a 1900’s photo album or portraits of actors starring in old noir silent movies…nothing strange about that except for demon horns, ogre-like men, dozens-eyed men, while ladies expose sharp canines, tapered ears and charming spectral looks.

We ate all the salami and we drank all the wine, but NotAWonderBoy’s works are still at the bastard store until monday October 11th, swing by to give it a well deserved look.

Gli occhiali di Electric Art Shade Expo

by davidelp 3 December 2010

Here below the customized shades by Olimpia Zagnoli, Scarful and Cento Canesio for the Art Shade Expo at bastard store.

Olimpia brings her colorful universe, overpainting every corner of her BPM shade, including lenses.

Scarful worked on the surface, drilling and digging a pair of Detroit with a Dremel and other sharp tools.

Cento Canesio gave birth to a bicolor version of the Hardknox, applying his iconography on it through a thin black marker on gray spraypaint.

WE ARE THE BEaST

by MAS™ 3 December 2010

Good luck to our friend Marcello Crescenzi, aka Rise Above, for the live painting session at We are the Beast.

Bang Art Magazine, that focuses on the international contemporary art scene, will host the opening event for ROMA. The Road to Contemporary Art on May 26th.
LRNZ, McLane and Mariachiara Di Giorgio will paint their style side by side with Marcello, while you may feel wilder by wearing one of the spectacular paper masks crafted by Nacho Gil.

So it’s art and more, with music and a fireworks show at a night time party you shouldn’t miss!
