Exit Through the Gift Shop, Banksy’s movie

by GroS 26 January 2010

Exit Through the Gift Shop is the name of the first feature film directed by Bansky: the movie will be presented at the Sundance, the indipendent film festival of Park City (Utah).
According to the information i was able to collect by blogging around, the movie, which is presented as the first disaster movie about street art,  narrates the story of Tony Guetta, a French filmmaker who loves art and cinema and wants to shoot a documentary about street art, trying to meet Bansky himself. Obviously he will not succeed…

Everything That Creeps

by Ambra 26 January 2010

A bunch of new and old interesting books has just arrived at the bastard store; among them Everything That Creeps.

Elizabeth McGrath, LA angel-faced artist, collects in this book some of her most creeping, bloody and repulsive creatures.

An irriverent sculptress who has created a fantafreaky world, populated by odd and freaky characters meant to be hung on your wall or to be displayed on your nightstand (she has her beloved dead and stuffed chihuahua on hers).

On the one shelf on which you put your childood relics, next to Goldrake, you could also put a McGrath’s sexy doll with bloody legs, or some drunk miniature insects or, if you really love animals, a chopped hare head.

The deep-dark iconography of Elizabeth shocks, amazes and amuses, her sculptures are full of truculent details and they evoke disturbing atmospheres “a la David Lynch” but thanks to the wise mixture of kitsch, irony and horror they come out excessive yet refined.

Here’s a video recently featured on Boing Boing tv in which David Pescovitz meets Liz McGrath.

Bri Mendoza Crum, art director of the event, invited me a couple of months ago, and now a Lelel board is on its way to Dallas.

REBORN-LELEThe Art of Skateboarding is an annual event raising money for The Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital in Dallas. We have 200 skateboards that are designed by all different artists: painters, graphic designers, fashion designers, etc…and, they are all auctioned off. 20 of them will be live auction and the rest are silent auction. It will be an evening of cocktails, food, dj, and fun! The Captain and Casey show will be coming out to be our emcee’s for the evening and we are also bringing out the half-pipe for the guys to skate. Our honorary chairs are Al Coker and John Comer. Last year we raised $44,000 and this year our goal is $100,000. Tickets are only $25! Come out and have fun…and support a good cause!

Wild Jonze

by lorebini 26 January 2010

where_the_wild_things_are

It’s simply impossible to keep track of Spike Jonze! Yesterday I was listening to a radio station, RadioPopolare, where they have this nice program named Alaska. I found out that he has eventually finished his new movie – out tomorrow in the U.S. and in few weeks in Italy – called WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE, inspired by a popular children book and very, very promising! In the meantime Jonze has put up a new blog and made a documentary about the author of the book, Maurice Sendak. If you think this is not enough you should know that the MoMA is celebrating the director with an exhibition titled The First 80 Years. You can visit Alaska blog for more information… But how come we have Obama leading the planet instead of Spike Jonze?

Evolver

by lorebini 26 January 2010

evolver

Archinect – in my opinion one of the best architecture blogs around – features this project named Evolver. It is a structure designed and built on the mountains in Zermatt by 2nd year students from the Alice Design Lab of the Lausnne University. I have to admit it is a little bit depressing to compare this guys skills with the ones of Italian students… anyway, I guess there are a lot of things you could do and build as a skater exploiting this knowledge!

Robots & Donuts at bastard store

by Ambra 26 January 2010

Robots-donuts

Hmm… I would describe me as an artist who tries to inject human pathos into robots. Trying to breathe life into robots. That’s what I do. At least I try to. […]”

That’s what Eric Joyner thinks about himself. He is a californian artist, author and main character of “ROBOTS & DONUTS“, the last arrival at bastard’s Bookstore.

All the drawings inside this book portray improbable robotic scenarios: robots shooting laser beams against mega killer donuts, pirate robots, robots fighting on a ring, space candy but also romantic robots in bucolic contexts. An amazing visionary collection of pure surreal Pop Art…

The curious selection of more than 50 titles that you can find at the Bastard’s Bookstore, has nothing to do with  classic fiction, we decided to give room to  photography, design, graphics and illustration, music, street-art and obviously skateboarding.

Universal Bowl?

by lorebini 26 January 2010

orozco-pool-2

Last night I bought the latest Abitare issue and I found out that artist Gabriel Orozco, together with architect Tatiana Bilbao, has built a fantastic house in Roca Blanca, on the cliffs, in front of the ocean and under the stars. The most spectacular element is a central pool with a diameter of 8 m, a section of a perfect sphere. Mmhh…

This Universe House, shot by Iwan Baan, has been posted on Abitare website. Nevertheless – differently from the magazine – the cross section, the most representative drawing to understand the size of the pool, is missing.
