Skate Italy with bastard on VBS TV

by GroS 19 March 2010

Some time ago the producer of VBS TV Chris Gross came visit us, as he was collecting material to make a documentary on the history of skateboarding in Europe, and for the Italian chapter has asked us, among others, for some help.

Thanks to the support of Stefano Pomogranato and Vans Italy finally we can see all 5 episodes that narrate a part of our history, a part because clearly when the whole movement started, there were not only Milan and Rome, there was Turin with the Nelzi brothers, Zampa and Pantaleoni, Genoa with the Contati brothers, there was Verona with Ugolini and Tabacchi …
In these five episodes, very well done, we’re taken on a journey through the history and evolution of skateboarding in Italy from the origins to present times; from the first ollies to the golden years of Giorgio Zattoni, all the way to the bastard bowl, going through Milano Centrale.

In the first two episodes Papik Rossi, Ale Martoriati, Alessandro Gargiulo and Mirai Pulvirenti talk about Roma… Unmissable Mirai on the psycological bump.

The third episode is about the beginnings of the professional career of Giorgio Zattoni. Story told by Giorgio himself with a little bit of melancholy.

The last two episodes deal with Milano with tales from the Giordano bros, Jep, Max Bonassi and Gros.

bastard store – building of the year 2009 nomination

by davidelp 19 March 2010

During 2009 ArchDaily turned into the most visited architecture website and this doesn’t surprise us at all, having seen the amount of contacts that their post published in May brought to the bastard store. ArchDaily chose to celebrate its successes of the last year with the Building Of  The Year 2009 award, voted from the readers.

Now the bastard store has made it into the finals by entering the Top 5 of the interiors section… and it’s huge considering the large number of projects in nomination, but we still need the final touch by all supporters provided with Facebook or Twitter.

Too old to skate everyday?

Andrea Paulicelli

Last night i witnessed an exeptional reunion of the old school scene: Billy Runaway came for a visit, he was a pro skater for Madrid in the 80s and a potojournalist for Thrasher in those years. The welcome team was so composed: Max Bonassi, Alex Colombi, Claudio “Jep” Bernardini and Andrea Paulicelli. These old folks hadn’t seen each other in 21 years, surprise! Alex had first met Billy in Milan back in ’85, and soon introduced him to Bonassi who was craving for a consulence for building a vert ramp in Monza.

To celebrate, we sat at the fish restaurant right next door and popped some corks… After a 3 hours food fest we went up to the bastard bowl, but we suffered from the digestion along with the wine effects and a few more years on our shoulders… Too old to skate? Maybe not, infact Jep and Bonassi did represent with their skating as much as they could, but maybe i’m “too old to take action photos everyday”, eheh! So i decided to only post their mugshots, and since i started skating in the 80s, those are the faces that inspired me to join the four wheels and a board world… All the best to Billy and his young company skate company, and I thank him for a little industry talk, that done with the right people is never boring! See you next time, hoping it doesn’t take another 21 years!

Domus 929Domus magazine issue 929, out now, comes with a map/guide of the 129 best italian contemporary architectures, according to their editorial staff:
Instant atlas – a map of new italian architecture

“[…]This Domus ‘atlas’ is a snapshot in time that can be read as initial tally of architects who are destined to produce (hopefully sometime soon) a new situation in contemporary architecture all over Italy that is more egalitarian in quality and diffusion”. Stefano Casciani

Picture number 20 features bastard store and Comvert Hueadquarters, which grand opened last October 24th; project realized by studiometrico. It shows one of my favourite angles, the bastard bowl photographed from beneath.

a loneliness FS Ollie by Daniele Galli

The bastard bowl Shop Session (yes, it is a tongue-twister) is a day where the retailers from a a particular italian region come and visit our HQ along with some of their team riders. Last sunday a group of friends from Veneto showed up with our sales rep Checco Ugolini. Sloth from Vicenza, Secret Spot from Jesolo, Rider House from Padova, and Cubical from Thiene. They all came along with a few riders, and together with Daniele Galli, Amen, Andrea Vecchi and Max Bonassi threw down a good session. Here are some pics.
