Todd Bratrud at the bastard store

by davidelp 2 May 2012

Todd Bratrud, after enjoying Milan’s Design Week, flew back to his “cave” in Grand Forks North Dakota, deep in the US Mid West.

Thank you Todd, and thank you Winston Tseng for letting us enjoy the incredible works of this American artist.

His precious bag of prints, silkscreens and stickers is luckily still in Milano and its items are available for purchase at the bastard store Limited Editions section.

The art of bastard logo

by davidelp 2 May 2012

As Jep designed the bastard logo in 1998, was he fantasizing about seeing it exposed in an art gallery one day?

It happened. Thanks to the artist Marta Dell’Angelo who painted a stitched guy wearing a vintage Spongy sweatshirt (circa 2001).

The painting, which is part of collezione Grassi,  is exposed at Palazzo delle Stelline, located in Corso Magenta 71, Milan, until the end of 2012.

Marta‘s body of work is definitely worth watching, so you might as well pay a visit.

Mattia Turco tlog – to one on his back in the dark

by jep 2 May 2012

Not only Mattia Turco has got one the most explosive ollies ever seen around here, he also recently opened his new tumblelog which features a lot of interesting work. He throws an oil layer on the sheet, covers everything with black and pulls the drawing out by scraping the surface with a technique that reminds me the works i did in school as a kid.

Above and below, the one that would rather suffer than die.

P.s. Mattia is now on the roster of El Santo Skateboards.

Paratissima 2011

by davidelp 2 May 2012

What is Paratissima?
It looks like FuoriSalone, but less business, less booze, but leaves its mark…

Paratissima is an artistic event in San Salvario in Turin, from 2nd to 6th November, realized outside of the institutional  contemporary art scene. Paratissima takes place every November in the popular neighbourhood  of  San Salvario, in Turin, where spaces such as shops, unfurnished properties, streets and buildings are used to show the works of young artists. But Paratissima is not only this: The event is not just an art exhibition, but is a communal celebration or party which involves music and special events, thus creating an alternative possibility and environment to meet.

So, a whole neighbourhood in Turin will be twisted with music, art, theatre plays and other shows for the whole week. free and open to everyone with no need for a badge or other vip stuff. We’ll be there as a tech support for the Paratissima staff but mostly as happy guests on saturday 5th night.

Contest Spazio 33

by jep 2 May 2012

Friend and architect Lorenzo Bini has a new firm called binocle and we’re looking forward to collaborate on a few very interesting projects…

The firm binocle is launching today an open contest for illustrating the mega chalk board that will camp in his latest project: Spazio 33, wine-bar cafeteria located inside a beautiful park in Oleggio (NO). If you are a writer, illustrator, cartoonist or you simply think you could do a good job send your illustrations as the project seriously deserves it!

P.S. Do they really want to create an innovative skateable path inside the park too?

Concrete power

by lorebini 2 May 2012

A few weeks ago I drove through Potenza to specifically see this bridge. Designed by Sergio Musmeci, it was built in 1969 over the Basento river to link the motorway with the historical town centre. The structure has no pillars, merely supported by a continuous 30cm thick surface, twisted in order to form gigantic arches that make a walkable path, thus becoming an engineering and an art masterpiece at the same time. Although the concrete is not  super smooth, I was wondering if any skater has ever tried these transitions.

Just in case, I took some pictures.
